David Lynch joined vimeo and uploaded an alternative take from ERASERHEAD:
Unfortunately he spammed his own account already with his second upload :(
Don’t get me wrong. I am very grateful for some of his works – I kind of owe my degree in film sciences especially THE ELEPHANT MAN, BLUE VELVET, LOST HIGHWAY and MULHOLLAND DRIVE. He was my inspiration, my idol even. Until I found out, that some great ideas in his movies weren’t his, but from his team. No bad thing. I also started to think, that pressure brought out the best of him – being forced to keep a certain length or abandon finish a film at some point can alter the result.
He seems to have stopped doing that. Since the internet allows him to publish everything, he is repeating himself, and made a 3 hour lasting movie INLAND EMPIRE – which I haven’t watched and probably never will. I think without having it edited with an editor down to 2 hours, and containing earlier material (like the „rabbits“) it simply could be less genuine like his earlier works, and I prefer to remember him the way before he kind of took a wrong turn on one of his his meditations.
No, I don’t believe in „killing your idols“. I’d like to say him goodbye instead. And that I miss him.
Goodbye David.
And thanks for all the bugs.
